Hot Topics in the Vineyard
This unique session provides an introduction to some of the current “Hot Topics” in Oregon viticulture. Divided into 3 “mini-sessions”, each talk is designed to provide attendees with an overview of a special topic presently under discussion in vineyard management… and very likely something to talk about at the ensuing Soiree.
Topic 1- A Review of the 2023 Growing Season with Jessica Dunnam – Results Partners, LLC. This talk will review one of the shortest/ fastest growing seasons the Oregon wine industry has ever experienced, the challenges that resulted and observations on vine behaviour in an increasingly unpredictable climate.
Topic 2- Sap Analysis with Drew Herman – Alexana Estates. Plant sap analysis, a method for monitoring plant nutrient status, is being increasingly used in viticulture. This talk will cover the potential uses of sap analysis as well as the strengths and limitations of the tool in vineyard management.
Topic 3- Pollinators in the Vineyard with Rebecca Sweet- Buzz Cover Crop Seeds. Wine grapes do not require pollinators for fruit production. So why is it important to provide a beneficial habitat in and around the vineyard? This talk will address the “Whys” and “Hows” of creating a pollinator friendly ecosystem in Oregon vineyards.
