Speaker Bios

Polly Hammond is the founder and managing director of 5forests, overseeing strategy and creative work. As the public face of 5forests, she splits her time between New Zealand, Napa and Spain consulting, writing and speaking about the trends that impact today’s wine businesses. She’s a regular contributor for New Zealand Winegrowers, co-host of the Real Business of Wine with Robert Joseph and, occasionally, a knitter.

Polly is a graduate of the University of Southern California, where she earned degrees in international relations and French. Those studies led to a deep and abiding love affair with behavioral economics, and her wine work is based on insights into all the irrational reasons consumers engage with brands.

With over 20 years of experience in growing successful companies, Polly knows first-hand the challenges faced by independent businesses. She approaches each client experience with empathy and understanding for what it takes to adapt and thrive in the real world.

Paul Mabray has been a powerful change agent in the wine industry for over 20 years. He has been at the forefront of all major digital trends for the wine industry, working with WineShopper.com and Wine.com when they entered the wine-digital space. He founded two companies that significantly changed the digital U.S. wine landscape, first by introducing winery ecommerce with Inertia Beverage Group that transformed into WineDirect.com pioneering winery ecommerce and then again introducing social media and social customer relationship management with VinTank.com. He is considered the wine industry’s foremost futurist and thought leader, harnessing the power and potential of digital tools and methodologies to move the industry into the future.
Janie Brooks Heuck is a Portland, Oregon native and managing director of Brooks Winery located in Amity, Oregon. Janie has always had a commitment to social responsibility and the environment, which is apparent through her work at the winery. As of January 2019, Brooks Winery became a Certified B Corporation, a forward thinking company that uses the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. The winery has also recently partnered with 1% For The Planet. 1% of all gross revenues at Brooks will directly benefit a qualified not for profit approved by 1% For The Planet. Janie is currently chair of the board of Wine America, vice chair of the International Riesling Foundation, and a member of the media committee for the International Pinot Noir Celebration.
