The Oregon Wine Board provides, pursuant to its legislative charter, research grants to institutions for research in viticulture and enology of particular relevance to the Oregon wine industry. The results of OWB-supported technical research are reported to the industry through seminars, symposia, extension publications, and peer-reviewed journals.

Strategic plan
Funding decisions are guided by the OWB’s strategic plan for viticulture and enology research. The current plan was developed by a group of industry experts and approved by the Board in 2018.

Research Committee Overview
Central to this function of the OWB Research Committee, which is comprised of Oregon-based viticulture and enology professionals. The Committee annually discusses and approves a request for proposals (RFP). Members evaluate applications for quality, relevance, budget, and staff/facility resources, and the Committee recommends a list of proposals for funding to the Oregon Wine Board of Directors.

Request for Proposal (RFP)*
The OWB seeks proposals for research projects relevant to Oregon viticulture and/or enology. The OWB has articulated the areas of research in which it wishes to invest; those can be found in Section I, of the RFP.
Proposals for OWB Research Grant funding must be submitted online by Jan 31, on the Unified Grants Management for Viticulture and Enology (UGMVE) website (https://fps.ucdavis.edu/vit).

*In order to be in alignment with the UGMVE the Request for Application (RFA) has been renamed Request for Proposal (RFP)
