A Note from the OWB

Dear Industry Colleagues: As many of you are in your peak busy season, we will keep this month’s introductory letter brief. Here are three things you need to know about what’s up and coming in the next few months:
  1. OWB will present our proposed budget revisions to the FY26-27 budget on July 29 at 9:30 a.m. Register for the Public Budget Forum – we welcome your input!
  2. The annual Mid-Year Insights Review and Oregon Wine Month Campaign Recap Webinar will be held on Aug. 18 at 11:30 a.m. Register to attend.
  3. Oregon Wine Symposium 2027 will be here before you know it. Mark your calendar now for Feb. 2 & 3 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland.

Webinar: DTC Shipping Enforcement in the States | July 23

What are the compliance issues that states are most focused on these days? For DTC shippers, compliance is an ongoing proposition. On July 23 at 10 a.m., hear Alex Koral, Regulatory General Counsel at Sovos ShipCompliant, speak about the most important regulatory concerns, which compliance issues states are spending their enforcement efforts on, and how to get ahead of any compliance action. SOREC Grape Field Day | August 18

Registration is now open for SOREC Grape Field Day on Aug. 18. This is an annual event where OSU scientists and industry practitioners showcase new research and updated best management practices related to viticulture in Southern Oregon and the wider region. Register by Aug. 1 for early bird rates.

2025 Oregon Vineyard & Winery Census Report Released

The Vineyard & Winery Census Report quantifying the 2025 harvest, crush and year in sales. The full report, additional insights provided by growers, and a description of the methods used to produce the report can be found on the industry website.

July 2026 Weather and Climate Forecast

Dr. Greg Jones recently published an updated weather and climate summary and forecast. This report looks back at June and forecasts conditions for July, August, and September.

Opportunities

USDA Assistance for Specialty Crop Farmers (ASCF) | Application Deadline: August 7

In recognition of increased farming costs and supply chain disruptions for specialty crop growers, the USDA is providing a one-time payment to farmers for crops grown in 2025. The program pays farmers on a per-acre basis of specialty crops grown in 2025 and reported to the FSA by April 24, 2026. Funding Opportunity: Travel Oregon Sponsorships Available for Culinary Tourism Events

Planning a wine event with a food component? You may be eligible for Travel Oregon sponsorship funding. Travel Oregon is offering $1,000 to $10,000 for qualifying consumer and industry events through June 30, 2027, or until funds run out. Submit your application here.

As the 2026 harvest approaches, keep in mind that the Industry Marketplace on OWB’s website is available to help growers and wineries connect. Fiscal 2026-27 Budget Revisions

OWB will present proposed budget revisions to the FY26-27 v2026.03 budget passed in March at a public presentation for input. A draft budget will be posted by July 24 followed by a public presentation on July 29 at 9:30 am. Register for the Public Budget Forum. All details including timelines, dates, budgets, industry input form, meeting registration links, and recordings of public presentations are available on the Budget & Financials page of the industry website. Basalt Bash & Barrel Auction | Milton-Freewater, July 24 & 25

The Rocks District Winegrowers is partnering with the Milton-Freewater School District with the goal of meeting the challenge of a critical need: expanding the delivery of mental-behavioral health services within the community at large. Events include a Global Syrah Masterclass, Wine + Tamale Tasting, Fiesta Block Party, and Barrel Tasting + Auction. Learn more and purchase tickets.

Method Oregon Grand Tasting Weekend | Willamette Valley, July 24-26

Method Oregon is a non-profit organization dedicated to establishing Oregon as a world-class sparkling wine region and telling the story of Oregon’s fast-growing traditional method sparkling wine movement.
