The OWB is a semi-independent state agency primarily funded by the state’s wineries and vineyards. The OWB invests in marketing, promotion, media relations, research and education on behalf of Oregon’s wine industry.

About the Role:
The Public Relations Manager is responsible for developing and executing strategic PR initiatives that enhance awareness and consumer engagement with the Oregon Wine brand, strengthen media relationships, and drive impactful media coverage. This position builds and manages trusted relationships with wine writers and critics, lifestyle media, and key influencers. This role also serves as a primary liaison with wine industry and other relevant PR professionals, ensuring alignment with brand priorities and our communication strategy.

Key responsibilities:
• Develop, manage and execute the Oregon Wine brand PR and earned media strategy
• Provide strategic direction and ensure alignment with Oregon Wine brand objectives
• Design and execute media-focused events, campaigns and press tours for domestic and international media and trade.
• Organize and host wine critic tastings, including managing calls for wine, pre-visit logistics, on-site coordination, and any related follow-up
• Develop and maintain a dashboard of industry trends, identifying emerging PR opportunities and challenges for Oregon wine; and make it available to Oregon winegrowers and producers.
• Assess the Oregon wine industry’s capacity for engaging successfully with the media; and provide industry guidance and training as needed
• Serve as a brand Oregon Wine ambassador, hosting media guests at events, key market activations and tastings.

What we are looking for:
• Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing or a related field and/or 5+ years of experience in public relations
• Exceptional writing, storytelling and communications skills
• Strong relationship skills and ability to build consensus
• Acute sense of judgment, tact, discretion and diplomacy
• Experience overseeing media campaigns and driving results
• Proven knowledge of and strong relationships with wine, trade and lifestyle media
• Confident in hosting press and representing brands at industry events
• Highly organized with strong project management, time management, and budgeting skills
• Able to travel periodically (approximately 10-15%) and have the flexibility to work some overtime
• Manage, execute and assess program success, and nimbly adjust as warranted.
• Proficiency with database management, Microsoft Office, WordPress, and PR applications such as Meltwater, Google Analytics, etc.
• Familiarity with state government operations is a plus

Location: Portland, OR; Hybrid Office Schedule (3 days a week in office on average)

Reports To: Marketing and Insights Director

Position Type: Full time, salaried commensurate with experience

Other Expectations: Some travel is required
Must be physically able to lift 50 pounds
