2020 SYMPOSIUM FEATURES EXPANDED GENERAL SESSION CONTENT
The General Sessions at the Oregon Wine Symposium are always a highlight, and this year we’re packing even more valuable content into the schedule.
Day 1 starts off with a two-part take on the latest trends within the Oregon wine industry and beyond. In his State of the Industry address, Silicon Valley Bank’s Rob McMillan (pictured) will talk about Oregon’s robust performance in a softening wine category, while providing his expert view on how Oregon can stay in front of shifts in consumer preference. Next up, Sam Tannahill of A to Z Wineworks will share a Review of the Vintage with insights into highlights and challenges of the 2019 winegrowing season statewide as well as common themes and trends.
On Day 2, set your alarm for Linfield College’s Dr. Greg Jones and his annual Climatology Report. With a look back at the weather and climate of 2019 and a forecast of the 2020 growing season, this perennial favorite is not to be missed. And if you’re more curious about the business climate in the wine industry, Kevin O’Brien (pictured) from Zepponi & Company will deliver local and global perspectives on Wine Industry M&A Trends, looking at the drivers of the recent wave of wine industry merger and acquisition transactions and offering an outlook for the future.
In addition to these inspiring and informative speakers, the General Session Hall will feature the annual Oregon Wine Industry Awards ceremony. This year’s event honors five people who have gone above and beyond to help advance our industry. We hope you’ll join in celebrating these members of our statewide wine community.
Symposium volunteers receive complimentary admission in exchange for working a volunteer shift. Shifts are scheduled on one day, so that you can attend all the sessions on the opposite day. A training and prep session will be held on Monday, Feb. 10.
If you need a hotel room for Symposium, join us at the brand new Hyatt Regency. The hotel is just across the street from the Oregon Convention Center. Attendees receive a discounted rate when booking by Monday, Jan. 20.
