The London Wine Competition looks to set a new benchmark for award-winning wines by assessing them for their quality, their value for their money and what they look like with their packaging and design.

The London Wine Competition will judge wines in three key areas:
- Value for money
- Package and Design
To be an award winner you will need to have a top-quality wine, that offers both the trade and the consumer great value for money, and you will need to look good and truly stand out on the shelf and on the back bar.

The judging will be conducted by panels of 3 or 5 and will include a mix of trade buyers and wine experts. Every panel will include this mix, ensuring that the wine is not only judged by its quality but also its saleability.
Each panel will comprise of a minimum of one on-trade buyer, one off-trade buyer, and one wine expert.

All wines entered will be handled by Sensible Wine Services and organized into flights for tasting. The wines will:
—Initially be tasted blind to determine its quality.
—Where appropriate they will also be assessed by variety, style, region, and country.
—Judges will then be given a briefing document setting out the wine’s price and target consumer and trade channel where it wants to be sold. Only then will judges be asked to give their score for quality based on the initial blind tasting and then additional knowledge about the wine’s price and market position.
—The judges will then be handed the bottle or format for them to be able to assess, in detail, the design, label, and packaging and determine how well that matches up to, or complements the quality of the wine and its price point.
—The judges will then discuss the wine as a whole to help allocate scores in the three judging areas.

The London Wine Competition has been created exclusively by the Beverage Trade Network, the US drinks events, services, business and publishing group dedicated to helping drinks producers and brand owners get closer to the buyers, distributors and retailers that can bring their products to market.
It is part of a new wider London drinks awards initiative that also includes The London Spirit Competition and the London Beer Competition that look to reward and high-light market driven spirits and beer brands.
